In this half-day workshop (Zoom) we’ll break down the increasingly popular personal essay and look at how to develop your own, from idea to publication. Through exercises and discussion, we will generate ideas for personal essays, and consider whether anything is too boring to be a personal essay. We will look at the classic essay form, how to avoid cliches, and what differentiates an essay from other forms of personal and life writing. Finally, we’ll discuss publishing personal essays in Ireland and internationally.
This is suitable for beginners, or for writers with some experience who want to experiment with a new form.
