Competition Deadline: 8th December 2017

Are you aged between 8 –11? Do you love writing stories? Then is definitely for you!

Rye Books have teamed up with Scoop Magazine to bring us this fantastic short story competition – what they think is their best challenge yet!

Write a story beginning with the following words: ‘Late afternoon, the storm arrived…’

The winner will be chosen by award winning author S. F. Said whose books include Varjak Paw, The Outlaw Varjak Paw and The Phoenix.

The winner will have their story published in Scoop Magazine’s Special March Issue – celebrating World Book Day!

There will also be a winner’s party at Rye Books, where you will get a chance to read your short story to your friends and family!

Terms and Conditions

1. You must be between 8-11 years old to enter
2. All stories must start with the words:
“Late afternoon, the storm arrived.”
3. Your story must be max 500 words – entries above 510 will be disqualified. Sorry!
4. All stories must be submitted in handwriting (no computer files or printed word docs please)
5. All entries must be sent or delivered to:
Rye Books, 45 Upland Road, London SE22 9EF
6. Closing date for entries is 8th December 2017
The winner will be announced on 1st March (World Book Day) and there will be a winners party on Sat 3rd March 2018 at Rye Books.
