Ireland’s Own Short Story Competition for Young People 2016

Ireland’s Own, in association with The O’Brien Press, is looking for the best young short story writers in the country.

There are four categories, 7-9, 10-12, 13-14 and 15-16 years old. The winner will receive an individual cash prize, and a prize for their class, generously sponsored by O’Brien Press.

The winners’ names will be published in our Christmas Annual.

The winning entries will be published in a special supplement in the New Year’s Annual 2017.

How to Enter

Choose one of the following headings and write an original story between 400 and 1,000 words. The headings are as follows:

  1. A Day Minding Granddad
  2. Down the Back of the Sofa
  3. A Letter From Mars
  4. The Expensive Dress
  5. My School After Dark

All entries must be original pieces of work by the author. Closing date for entries is October 31st, 2016. Include your name, age and contact details (address and phone number) of a parent or guardian with your entry and send as follows:
