Note Waves Podcast: writers on productivity, self-care and resistance | Guest Bloggers | Poetic Licence

Ben Simmons

This week sees the release of Note Waves, a five part podcast from Mayo County Council writer in residence Elizabth Reapy. In each episode Elizabeth invites fellow writers from Mayo and those with strong links to Mayo to discuss their creative process and overcoming creative barriers.

Every day this week, from Monday 6th to Friday the 10th of December, an episode is released. The first episode ‘Ebb’ discusses the ebb and flow of creative inspiration and how this impacts writers’ self-esteem, productivity and understanding of their craft.

These short episodes (under thirty minutes) are not in the traditional interview format. Instead, the voices of the contributors are offered as testament to the subject under discussion. This podcast provides some sage advice and comforting words to any writer putting pen to paper.

Produced by musician and multi-instrumentalist Donal McConnon (The Curly Organ), the podcast is supported by a varied and effective soundscape to accompany the writers’ words.

Contributing writers include Aisling Keogh, Alice Kinsella, Anne Walsh Donnelly, Colin Barrett, Edel Burke, Elizabeth Reapy, Frances Macken, Ger Reidy, Geraldine Mitchell, Jean Tuomey, Mari Maxwell, Mike Mc Cormack, Mike Heneghan, S.J. Butler, Sean Lysaght, Sheila Mc Hugh and Terry Mc Donagh.
