RTÉ’s Arts and Media Correspondent Sinéad Crowley has signed a two-book deal with UK publishing house Head Of Zeus, with The Belladonna Maze, due to arrive in September 2022.

Described as stylish, dual timeline family saga, spanning three generations of women who inherit a great country house in the west of Ireland, haunted since the famine of the 1840s, The Belladonna Maze marks a change of pace for Crowley after a series of acclaimed crime novels.

Sinéad Crowley is the author of the DS Claire Boyle series, police procedural/psychological thrillers set in Ireland. The first book in the series Can Anybody Help Me? was an Irish bestseller and shortlisted for Crime Book of the Year at the Irish Book Awards 2014. The sequel Are You Watching Me? was shortlisted for the same award in 2015 and book three was One Bad Turn. Sinéad is also Arts and Media correspondent with RTE News in Dublin.

When telling us about the book, Sinéad said: “It’s a classic Big House ghost story with a very Irish slant. I wrote it during the depths of lockdown when, to be honest, I needed a diversion from everything that was going on in the world, and it’s the kind of sweeping family saga that I love to get lost in when I’m reading myself. So I was delighted to be able to bring that world to the page and to share it with readers.”

Head Of Zeus Senior Editor Rosie de Courcy said: “It is always thrilling when a distinguished author surprises you with something completely new and unexpected. From the very first page, I knew I wanted to publish this lovely novel.”
