Now because we are a national writing website, I usually try to focus on as wide an audience as possible when I am sharing news about writing competitions for young people. But, I am making an exception just this once because:

  • It’s 2016 and we are celebrating and commemorating 100 years since the 1916 Rising;
  • This competition has a 1916 theme; and,
  • this is a competition which young writers from the age of 12 can enter and I am always on the look out for writing comps for young writers!
So as a one off here I go promoting a competition which is only open to those living in or those originally from County Kildare.
Kildare County Council Arts Service invites applications from writers (aged 12+) living in or from County Kildare, to submit a short story to be included in ‘Stories for the Ear 1916’. The competition will be open to all writers in Kildare, including anyone who has featured in a collection previously.
The theme is 1916 and the closing date us Friday 3 June 2016. The word count is 1500-2000 words or 7-10 minutes when spoken/performed. Short listed authors will be invited to work with curator Neil Donnelly to refine and edit their story to best fit the medium of spoken word. The word count should be 1500 – 2000 words or 7-10 minutes when spoken/performed.

This will be the sixth volume of Stories for the Ear. Volumes 1 – 5 can be listened to via the link below
