The Launchpad: A New Journal of Fiction for Children Seeks Submissions

Writing.ie | Guest Bloggers | Ink Stains

Writers Paula Matthews, Roisin Coleman, Julie Robinson and Illustrations Editor, Clare Fox have teamed up to launch an online journal showcasing new writing for children and young adults with an Irish / Northern Irish connection. The project has been inspired by The Incubator journal’s approach to showcasing new talent by inviting contributors to read at issue launches and therefore creating a network of new and emerging artists.

The Launchpad aims to showcase the talent of new and emerging illustrators under Claire Fox, and will be seeking submissions from writers and illustrators from 1St Spetember-31st October 2015. Submissions guidelines will soon be published on the website, but the editors are currently looking for short stories, poetry and illustrations for children and young adults. Short stories for children should have a maximum of 500 words, with a 1000 word count for young adults. Poems should not exceed one page. Submissions will only be accepted via email with Short Story, Poetry or Illustration clearly in the subject box.

Editor Paula Matthews was interviewed by Lagan Press and has been quoted as saying:

“My hope is that we can produce a journal which will boost people’s early writing CV’s, strengthen their confidence and allow them the experience of coming along to the launches and reading their work to the gathered artists.”

Writers and Illustrators will retain copyright for their work so that they can go on to submit it elsewhere if they wish.

The Launchpad can be contacted on: www.facebook.com/thelaunchpadjournal, @editorlaunchpad on Twitter, or thelaunchpadeditor@gmail.com.
