  • Artists coming together to raise funds for the Simon Community

Young Hearts Run Free is a Dublin-based collective who have been putting on unique music and literary events in aid of the Simon Community since 2008. They’re back this Christmas with the eighth edition of their wonderful and wonderfully popular Yule event, taking place on Saturday 5th December at Dublin’s CO-OP on Newmarket Square. This will be a chance to hear some of some of the most interesting and exciting creative voices in Ireland, have a dance, a tipple (it’s BYOB) and have a bit of cake – all in a good cause, in a beautiful start to the Christmas season.

Yule will see musicians, wordsmiths, comedians and DJs take to the stage to raise money for the Simon Community. The line-up will include:
    • Musicians including Dónal Lunny, Paddy Hanna, White Collar Boy, Women’s Christmas, Land Lovers, Switzerland, Mossy Nolan & Colm McGowan
    • Spoken word poet Stephen James Smith (author of Dublin You Are),
    • The Mess Around (Giles Brody, Colin Chadwick, Alison Spittle, Conor O’Toole & Simon Mulholland – who together pride themselves on offering the stupidest night of comedy in Dublin)
    • DJ Dandelion and Young Hearts DJs Peter, Daragh and Siobhán.

Siobhán Kane, founder of Young Hearts Run Free, says, “We began on 5th December 2008, and ever since, Yule has become something of a focus to our year’s efforts – a chance for everyone to come together and reflect over the year, while seeing old friends, making new ones, raising money for Simon, and enjoying some amazing artists. I always feel that Yule is a night where we can try and be distracted together, and be part of something inherently good and crazy, and soft and fun. We will have some surprise guests, great DJ’s, and a special space – the CO-OP has been a huge supporter of our events from the beginning, so we always feel like we are returning home each December, and celebrating Dublin city, and so much brilliant talent.”

Young Hearts Run Free was set up in 2008 to promote the creative community in Ireland while raising funds for the Simon Community, one of Ireland’s homeless organisations. Since then they have organised over thirty events and raised well over 20,000 euro. They have had contributions from people ranging from our President Michael D. Higgins to John Grant, from Roddy Doyle to Dónal Lunny, and Bill Drummond to Villagers, and they put on events in unusual spaces and have been on hillsides in Howth, pubs, churches, galleries, basements of office blocks, private homes, and various iconic buildings across the city.

Dublin Simon Community provide services to over 3,000 people in Dublin, Kildare, Wicklow and Meath who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
