Focusing on 2019 (Part 1): Mind Body Soul Journal by Andrea Hayes

In 2016 I knew I wanted to start writing – I’d always journalled, but I felt it was time to tell my own story, I didn’t really know where to start, but I started writing anyway.  Now in 2019, I have written 4 bestselling books in 2 years and become an Irish Times bestselling author.

I did it by writing what I was passionate about and KEEPING writing, whatever obstacles life threw up (and there have been a few).

My writing journey started with the release of my memoir about a life with chronic pain, Pain Free Life, which charted as a No.1 Irish published non-fiction paperback in February 2016.

A year later I wrote the best selling My Life Goals Journal and later that same year I penned a book based on my love for dogs called Dog Tales, stories of rescue dogs who rescued their owners right back.

In November 2018 I released my 4th book, a follow up to my Goals journal, the Mind Body Soul Journal.

So how did I get 4 books published in 2 years?

Maybe there is a little luck involved, there is certainly hard work, but I wouldn’t say I am any different from you, or anyone else who ever wanted to write a book. For me the secret was dedication: I didn’t stop writing; I just stayed in my lane. I write about things I love. Every time I write I get excited, the topic fires me up, and the warmth of that fire pulls me back and I keep tapping away at the keyboard until before I know it I’ve written The End on a first draft.

Are you ready to start that journey?

The fact that you are reading these words now is a starting point; imagine this moment is a gateway to something greater. It’s the start of you having a best selling book!

In my new book Mind Body Soul Journal, I write about my own personal path to self-discovery and transformation. The steps I outline are all about reconnecting with the deepest part of your Mind, Body and Soul – your Devine self. When you go to that place, you will experience balance, wellness, spiritual awakening, emotional awareness and greater physical health, vitality and direction in life.

In the sweet spot, your creativity flows and you can truly follow your dreams and write from the heart:

It’s an ‘INSIDE-OUT’ plan

I truly believe if you’re seeking a more fulfilling way forward, the only place to start is with you. You can’t expect great change to manifest from the outside as it is truly an inside job and it has to happen WITHIN you.

Here are some of my tips to making your writing dreams become a reality:

Step 1: Letting go of comparisons.

This is your first step to a new awareness of self. Measuring our physical appearance, material possessions, personal life, romantic relationships, career and many other variations to anyone else is toxic, deflating and a hazardous habit that you need to stop TODAY.

Making this little internal change not to worry about anyone else’s life or what they think of you, is a small step that is enough to propel you in the right direction.

I always say that what people think of me is their business – in just acknowledging that, suddenly after years of feeling stuck, I felt free to move, to spread my wings and go after what I wanted. I had nothing to lose and needed no-one’s approval.

It is important too to remember there is more to life than your achievements, so don’t allow your internal critic to tell you that you haven’t achieved or done enough. If we listen to that voice we are feeding our self-judgment.

This new habit of celebrating our unique self takes daily practice and awareness. So start today and let go of self limiting beliefs, because I believe you can write that book and you need to believe you WILL write that book and get it published and visualize it being a success – whatever that means to you.

In my Goals book and in the Mind Body Soul Journal there are links to my website and meditations that I have recorded to help you move forward. I have a chronic pain condition and I use meditation a lot to centre myself and move forward with projects, whether they are books (and I will spend hours cramped over a keyboard) or filming an new series where I could find myself on a windswept mountain in the snow for hours. This meditation is about starting, give it a try here.

Step 2: UNPLUG

Stop with social media. Call it a digital detox, an unfollow Friday or just unplug from the constant distraction and start to follow your own heart.

If you are not on social media maybe you need to STOP the internal dialogue of where you feel you SHOULD be in life right now. Whatever is holding you back, start now to create a clean fresh slate. Whatever it is that is swallowing up your time, it’s now time to unplug and to use that time for you. Use that time to write and try and to make it a daily habit to write something every day – even if it’s only a line or an idea. Clear any distractions that are holding you back and set yourself an achievable goal. Not everyone can write a thousand words a day, not everyone can even manage one hundred, but thinking time is as important for writing as writing time. Give yourself space, try and write as often as you can.

Steps 3, 4 and 5 will follow in Part 2 of this article.
