Sam Blake is a pseudonym for Vanessa Fox O’Loughlin, who is originally from St. Albans in Hertfordshire but has lived at the foot of the Wicklow Mountains in Ireland for slightly more years than she lived in the UK. Married to a retired member of An Garda Siochana she has two children, numerous cats and is in charge of her eldest child's ant farm while they are studying Aerospace Engineering in Swansea University. She runs the world’s only national writing resources website (guess!) as well as a publishing consultancy – she is Ireland’s leading literary scout. She has to hide to get any writing done, but it’s her passion.

Vanessa has been writing fiction since her husband set sail across the Atlantic for eight weeks and she had an idea for a book.

Little Bones

Meet Cathy Connolly - cop, kickboxing champion and now a soon-to-be mother . . .

Detective Garda Cathy Connolly's life has taken an unexpected turn. Faced with an unplanned pregnancy, Cathy's trying to decide how she's going to balance motherhood with the very real dangers of life on the job, especially when her latest case isn't as straightforward as it first appears.

Called to what seems like a routine break-in, Cathy discovers the bones of a baby concealed in the hem of an old wedding dress. When the dress's original owner, Lavinia Grant, is found dead in a Dublin suburb, Cathy is drawn deep into a complex web of secrets and lies spun by three generations of women.

Meanwhile, a fugitive killer has already left two dead in execution style killings across the Atlantic - and now he's in Dublin with old scores to settle. Can the team track him down before he kills again?

Struggling with her own secrets, Cathy doesn't know how dangerous - and personal - this case is about to become . . .

'Instantly gripping, perfectly paced, and filled with a brilliant cast of characters, led by the utterly likeable and relatable Detective Cathy Connolly.' Alex Barclay

In Deep Water

Good intentions can be deadly . . .

Cat Connolly is back at work. Struggling to adjust to the physical and mental scars, her workload once again becomes personal when her best friend Sarah Jane, daughter of a Pulitzer-winning American journalist, goes missing.

Her father is uncontactable, but her mother reports that he'd believed Sarah Jane was investigating something dangerous - yet the only records Cathy can find suggest that Sarah Jane was just involved in a seemingly innocent children's project.

Sarah Jane was last seen leaving her workplace - a popular Dublin restaurant - but seems not to have made it home.

And then a body turns up, and Cathy fears they have failed to save her friend. But when it transpires that the dead woman is not Sarah Jane, she realises that this case is only just getting started . . .

In the world of missing persons, every second counts, but with the clock ticking can Cathy find Sarah Jane before it's too late?

No Turning Back

Even perfect families have secrets . . .

Orla and Conor Quinn are the perfect power couple: smart, successful and glamorous. But then the unthinkable happens. Their only son, Tom, is the victim of a deliberate hit-and-run.

Detective Garda Cathy Connolly has just left Tom's parents when she is called to the discovery of another body, this time in Dillon's Park, not far from where Tom Quinn was found. What led shy student Lauren O'Reilly to apparently take her own life? She was a friend of Tom's and they both died on the same night - are their deaths connected and if so, how?

As Cathy delves deeper, she uncovers links to the Dark Web and a catalogue of cold cases, realising that those involved each have their own reasons for hiding things from the police. But events are about to get a lot more frightening . . .
