Ted Rea MBE

Ted Rea was Born in the 1960’s into a family of eight boys in their two-bedroom terrace house in east Belfast. His formative years were spent during what was known as the “Troubles.” Having left school shortly before his sixteenth birthday with no formal qualifications, he found himself at the Army Recruitment Offices in the centre of Belfast. He joined the British Army in the 1970’s and served with distinction for 35 years. He served in Berlin during the “Cold War.” And seen service in many of the other world hotspots.
On leaving the armed forces, he worked in Afghanistan as a Counter-Intelligence Adviser as part of ‘‘Resolute Support” in a capacity building role for US government initiatives.
During his distinguished military career, he was recognised for his service with the award of the Member of British Empire Medal (MBE) and the Queen’s Commendation for Bravery (QCB). Now retired, he enjoys writing and playing golf.
Ted claims the pandemic or Covid period was a blessing in disguise for him as a writer come Author. he could never have imagined that the wee boy from the back streets of Belfast could ever write two novels and have a third as WIP (Work in Progress). Writing under a pseudonym Hamilton Spiers his fiction thrillers are very much based on Irish crime and terrorism with believable storylines full of intrigue. He recently published his latest novel on the Amazon platform, “Investigare.” A story delving into the murky world of Intelligence, Agents (Touts) Special Branch and MI5.
