About this Organisation

A week-long visit to Ireland that will leave you with the fondest of memories, combining the best of scenery the entire island has to offer plus practical training that will help you become a better writer. Not to mention walking tours through beautiful landscapes and introduction to both the native language of Irish and traditional Irish dancing. All amidst Donegal's rugged landscape, a pristine mix of lake, island, mountain and sea providing a clarity of vision second to none - an inspiration to writers, musicians and visual artists alike. Hosted by Sean Hillen, journalist, editor, publisher and author of novel 'Pretty Ugly' with 40 years of international media experience covering subjects as diverse as conflict, business and economics, health, science and travel, course participants will learn new techniques for best writing, whether for short story, memoir or novel format. In addition to his work in print and broadcast in several different countries including England, Romania and the US, numerous speaking engagements and his own publications, Sean has conducted a series of comprehensive interviews at book fairs and writing conferences with a wide range of best-selling authors in many genres including David Nicholls, Lee Child, Ian McEwan, Douglas Kennedy,Kate Moss, Daniel Wallace, R.J. Ellory and John Connolly. Invaluable insights Sean has gained from these conversations into what made these writers successful as well as helpful hints about their daily writing habits will be incorporated into the week-long writing workshops in west Donegal. Sean’s unique approach to coaching writers is based on guidelines inherent in the classic Five Ws of journalistic story-telling (Who, What, Where, Why, When). Such an approach has done wonders for former journalists who have gone on to become successful, best-selling novelists – Ernest Hemingway (Sean once held the very same reporting position as Hemingway while working at The Kansas City Star Times in the mid-1980s); Lee Child, David Nicholls, George Eliot, Guy de Maupassant, Mark Twain, and Graham Green, to name but a few.
