About this Organisation

A poem and a piece of art every Monday? What a great start to the week...

The Poetry Project sends you a contemporary poem and video from Ireland, for free, every Monday, wherever you are in the world.

Why? We love poetry, and we love art, and we know that most people do too - but we don't always find space for it in our lives. So we decided to do something about it. It  kicked off on January 1st 2013, and already thousands of people around the world - from Milan to Micronesia, Portlaoise to Panama - are enjoying the work of Irish artists and writers.

The background is that the project was set up to celebrate Ireland's literary and visual creativity, and it was supported by Culture Ireland, with additional help from Foras na Gaeilge, and it's part of the programme for Ireland's Presidency of the Council of Europe.

It's totally free to sign up to - at www.thepoetryproject.ie - where you can also look at all the poems and videos so far. The results are surprising, special, and often unexpected.

Organised by the Kinsale Arts Festival, in partnership with Poetry Ireland and the Royal Hibernian Academy, each Monday subscribers are emailed a link to their new poem and video. The poems are selected by Gerard Smyth and Joseph Woods, and the videos by Patrick T. Murphy and Gemma Tipton.

So come and join the project! We hope you like it. www.thepoetryproject.ie
