Mining Memories Submission

Mining Memories is about living history. It is all about your recollections and memories whether from yesterday or from fifty years ago.

What can you remember of your school days? What was the most dramatic incident in your life? Share your memories and help build the National Folklore Collection to reflect the lives of Irish people, wherever they are living. Submissions can be up to 1500 words, poetry or prose, and can be made by completing the form below. We are looking for all kinds of memories, here are some suggestions:

  • Christmas and New Years memories
  • Easter memories
  • St. Patrick’s Day Memories
  • Memories of School/College
  • First Date Memories
  • Wedding Memories
  • Ghostly Memories
  • Holiday Memories
  • Family Occasions

Before you make a submission, please read the Submission Guidelines. You must also acknowledge on your submission form that you have read and understood the Copyright Notice.

Please provide you name, as you would like it to appear with your entry.
Please provide your email address, so that you can be contacted if necessary in relation to your submission. This will not be published.
Please provide your telephone number in case there is a problem with your email. This will not be published.

We also need some biographical data in order to help the National Folklore Collection to classify your submission. In the years to come these pieces maybe used for genealogical research so we need to ensure that individual pieces can be found. Note that this information will not be published on

Please provide the title for your submission here. Keep it short (ideally less than ten words) and impacting.
Please state the period your submission relates to i.e. 1940′s, 1950′s etc. If you can give is a specific time frame, even better! This will help both ourselves and the National Folklore Collection catalogue your submission.
Please keep as close to the 1500 word submission guideline as possible. Your entry may be in poetry or prose. It may be best to compose your submission elsewhere, and paste it into here when it is complete.
