Get Drawn In with Children’s Books Ireland & Dublin Writer’s Festival – Book Now!

Dublin Writers Festival and Children’s Books Ireland invite you to Get Drawn In to a unique celebration of European picture book makers in Dublin. The city has come alive with specially commissioned illustrations from our resident picture book makers Hervé Tullet (France), Sarah McIntyre (UK) and Laureate na nÓg, Niamh Sharkey (IRL). Children can flex their creative abilities in a wide range of workshops, monster drawing sessions and other arts activities in schools, libraries and venues across the city. Picture books open up the wondrous world of literature and visual arts. It’s time for Dublin to Get Drawn In. Tickets for the following events are selling out soon so get booking!

Getting Drawn Into Professional Illustration on Tuesday May 21st at 6pm at The Ark, is an event for professional and aspiring illustrators alike, which sees some of Europe’s most prolific illustrators help you find out more about their varied routes into illustration. Featuring our Get Drawn In resident illustrators and picturebook makers Hervé Tullet (France), Sarah McIntyre (England), Niamh Sharkey (Laureate na nÓg, Ireland) and also Sara Fanelli (Italy), expect engaging and informative insights into how each of them forged careers in the industry.

For school groups the  Monster Comic Jam with Sarah McIntyre, Steve Simpson & Marie Louise Fitzpatrick is on Thursday May 23rd. Drawing invades Temple Bar as Meeting House Square is transformed with large rolls of paper and art supplies. Grab an oil pastel in your favourite colour and jump head first into our large scale communal drawing session!

Drawing Children In: Approaches to Programming Literature Events on Friday May 24th at 11am at The Ark gives Arts programmers and practitioners some time out to be inspired. Dublin Writers Festival and Children’s Books Ireland have gathered together some of Europe’s leading arts programmers for children to discover some new ways of thinking and working to engage young minds. Featuring Sally Goldsworthy (Discover Story Centre, London), Tamsin Ace (Southbank Centre, London), Sean Love (Fighting Words) and Arthur Lappin (The Ark).

Story Pod Decoration with Adrienne Geoghegan on Saturday 25th May from 12 at the Culture Box, Temple Bar: Decorate a pop-up story pod where you can snuggle up and enjoy a good read.

Drop-In Book Clinic on Saturday 25th May from 12pm at the Culture Box, Temple Bar, come along to the Book Clinic where the Book Doctor will take your reading temperature and prescribe a new book! With CBI staff and Book Doctors Kim Harte and David Maybury.

Family Monster Doodle with Laureate na nÓg Niamh Sharkey on Sunday 26th May from 12pm at Meeting House Square, Temple Bar. Dublin Writers Festival and CBI invite families to Get Drawn In. Grab an oil pastel in your favourite colour and help create a whole new universe of scary monsters! For families who love books, art and fun!

Drop-by Monster Styling with Marie Louise Fitzpatrick and Steve Simpson on Sunday 26th May at 1pm at Meeting House Square, Temple Bar. Meet the monsters created by our European illustrators and picture book illustrators and personalise them with your own choice of materials, colour and designs. Irish picture book creators Marie Louise Fitzpatrick and Steve Simpson will be on hand to assist and advise.
