Twinkly lights are already appearing across the world, as people begin Christmas preparations slightly earlier than normal in an effort to reclaim some joy and hope from new lockdowns – and the same applies to the bestseller lists, where Christmas shopping is clearly well underway, judging by this week’s bestsetlling titles.

Children are in for a generous dose of humour and fun, as David Walliams’ new book claims the #1 spot it was denied last week in both the Top 20 and the Children’s Top 10, as well as a second spot at nos. 11 and 4, respectively. He doesn’t have it all his own way in the Children’s chart, though – the lastest books in the Wimpy Kid and Dog Man are there, but Walliams still pulls away with a safe gap of almost 2000 sales. We also have the newest book from J. K. Rowling, The Ickabog, at no. 3 in the Children’s chart.

In other categories, there are some old favourites returning, with The Beekeeper of Aleppo back in Mass Market Fiction at no. 5, Giraffes Can’t Dance at no. 6 in Children’s, and Where The Crawdads Sing at no. 1 in Mass Market Fiction.

This week’s featured book is a beautiful gift idea; Old Ireland in Colour by John Breslin and Sarah-Anne Buckley is at no. 3 in Hardback Non-Fiction and doing briliantly in the Top 20, at no. 5. Here’s the blurb:

Old Ireland in Colour celebrates the rich history of Ireland and the Irish through the colour restoration of stunning images of all walks of Irish life, and the Irish abroad, throughout the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. From the chaos of the Civil War to the simple beauty of the islands, each image has been exquisitely transformed and every page is bursting with life. Using a combination of cutting-edge artificial intelligence technology and his own historical research, John Breslin has meticulously colourised these pictures with breathtaking attention to detail and authenticity. With over 170 photographs from all four provinces, and accompanied by fascinating captions by historian Sarah-Anne Buckley, Old Ireland in Colour revitalises scenes we thought we knew, and brings our past back to life before our eyes.

And now this week’s charts with the Top 20 followed by the Top 10 in each category.
