Another week, another bunch of new releases as we get on the home stretch to Christmas! Marian Keyes is still running away with that coveted number one spot, but there are some cracking new reads in the charts too.

We have a new addition to Stieg Larsson’s Millennium Series: The Girl Who Takes An Eye for An Eye which has come in at no. 7, and a new paperback release from John le Carré, A Legacy of Spies. Over in Paperback Non-Fiction there’s a couple of interesting reads, for very different tastes: starting with some spirituality we have Padre Pio: Irish Encounters with the Saint by Colm Keane, and My Father’s Wake: How the Irish Teach Us To Live, Love and Die by Kevin Toolis – possibly a little macabre, but interesting reading, and some great reviews! We can also see Bunreacht Na Heireann/Irish Constitution popping up again – just above My Father’s Wake; politics before death. Heading off all of these, though, is the top choice for Paperback Non-Fiction, This Book is Worth €25000, by Karl Deeter and Charlie Weston.

For our featured book this week it was a toss-up between this year’s hotly-anticipated political memoir: What Happened by Hillary Rodham Clinton (good question, I think we’d all like to know…) and something a bit closer to home, and a possible early Christmas idea for some readers. The Atlas of the Irish Revolution has just come out and despite its hefty price-tag (and hefty page count, at almost a thousand apges) reflecting its more academic leanings, it’s gone straight to the top of the Hardback Non-Fiction chart as well as no. 2 in the Top 20, so it seems like a good choice for this week. Here’s the blurb:

The Atlas of the Irish Revolution draws together existing and ongoing new research into the revolutionary period in a broad ranging and inclusive manner. It includes contributions from leading scholars across a range of disciplines, incorporating the ‘big issues’ – such as gender, class, community, religion and ethnicity, the nature of violence, periodization and the geography of revolution – while also maintaining a close focus on events as they impacted at a local level. The analysis of conditions in the provinces, counties and parishes tells the stories of particular individuals and families caught up in the events of these years. The spatial/cartographic emphasis required the production of a range of new data that is represented locally, regionally, nationally (across the thirty-two counties) and internationally; this adds an important new dimension to our understanding of the period and to the historical geography of the revolutionary years. The Atlas also includes sections on the evolution of revolution, and on its aftermath, legacy and the collective memory and cultural representation of this fascinating, transformative period of Irish history.A chronologically and thematically organised treatment of the period will form the core of the atlas, but the political, military, social, cultural and economic roots of the revolution, as well as its short-, medium- and long-term impacts on Irish life will also be analysed and mapped. The visualisation of the period will be enhanced by the extensive use of archival documents, photographs and paintings. These images will help bring the period to life for a broad audience -academic, school students and the general public. As well as reflecting existing scholarship, the new material will also serve as a resource and impetus for further research and scholarship.

And moving on to the charts, for a little light relief. Here’s the Top 20, followed by the Top 10 in each category:
