The charts are a strange mix this week of old and new; our old friends The Tattooist of Auschwitz and Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine (by Heather Morris and Gail Honeyman respectively) are topping and tailing the Top 20. Whilst Morris’ Tattooist is back at the top as no. 1, it’s Eleanor Oliphant who will be celebrating after collecting a Platinum Award at the Nielsen Bestseller Awards this week, almost exactly a year after the paperback was released. Elsewhere in the Top 20 Oh My God What A Complete Aisling The Novel and its sequel The Importance of Being Aisling by Emer McLysaght and Sarah Breen are also featuring, at nos. 7 and 8 respectively, and Graham Norton’s A Keeper and Emilie Pine’s Notes To Self are also back in the Top 20 chart.

Newcomers include The Fast 800 by Michael Mosley and Reverse Your Diabetes by Dr Eva Orsmond, for those of us trying to get our bodies back in shape, and Mind, Body, Soul Journal by Andrea Hayes to sort out the mind. Interestingly none of these books, all appearing in the Top 20 for the first time, were released in 2019 but with the Christmas out of the way, it would appear to be time for them to have their moment. Sales are unspectacular across the board, with even no.1 not hitting 1000.

This week’s featured book is one of the few 2019 releases in the charts, and was mentioned last week as a new entrant. Patricia Gibney’s new thriller, The Lost Child, is at no. 7 in the Original Fiction chart but again, it’s expected to be around for a while, particularly with such fantastic reviews! Here’s the blurb:

WOW, WHAT AN AMAZING BOOK!!!!… From the very start to the last page you’re hooked!Goodreads Reviewer, 5 stars

‘Let me out! Please…’ My tiny fists pound the door, but my voice reverberates off the stone walls and hangs in the air as if suspended by spider’s webs. No one comes…

Years later, a woman is found face-down in a pool of blood. Detective Lottie Parker is called to the remote farmhouse in the bleak Irish countryside. Inside, she finds a scene that speaks of uncontrollable rage: glasses smashed, chairs ripped apart, the woman’s body broken.

A black rain jacket makes Lottie think she knows the killer’s identity, but then she finds a disturbing clue: is the murder linked to an old case at St Declan’s asylum? A case investigated by her own father, just before he took his life.

When another victim is left without her tongue on the hospital steps, and a young girl goes missing, Lottie knows she has to act fast. Can she face her own demons and uncover the truth before another life is taken?

An absolutely gripping page-turner from the bestselling author of The Missing Ones and The Stolen Girls. If you love Rachel Abbott, Angela Marsons or Robert Dugoni, you’ll be completely hooked.
