Welcome back to the Irish bestselling books lists. While it’s great to see some brand new releases in fiction hitting the charts this week, we’ve got some brilliant books in non-fiction really making a splash. This week’s featured book is one of these.
Seeing What’s Hidden: Uncovering Ireland’s Ancient Ways of Knowing is the final book from the much beloved author, the late Manchán Magan, whose previous book Ninety-Nine Words for Rain (And One For Sun) won Best Irish-Published Book of the Year at the An Post Irish Book Awards last year not long after his very sad death. Seeing What’s Hidden is the final book in his trilogy after Thirty-Two Words for Field and Listen to the Land Speak and we expect it to become just as well-loved as his others.
Here’s the blurb:
In his final book, Manchán Magan implores us – even dares us – to move from the limited rational world to a more expansive spiritual one. To become re-enchanted once again. To understand that there are more ways of seeing, more ways of knowing and to uncover the interconnectedness between all things.
Manchán explores how ancient Irish culture retains deep resonances with other indigenous worldviews – a way of perceiving land, language, nature and spirit as inseparable. Drawing on mythology, early law, folklore and placenames, Manchán traces how Ireland’s forests, sacred trees and landscapes shaped the Irish psyche with such a resilience that many beliefs and customs endure to this day. In Seeing What’s Hidden, Manchán implores us to look again so that we too might rediscover our cultural inheritance and chart our course forward from here.
And now the charts; data supplied by Nielsen BookScan taken from the Irish Consumer Market.
