As the summer peaks, the charts seem to be feeling lethargic from the heat, as there’s little movement and no brand new entries. Walliams clings on to the top spot by a relatively narrow margin for The World’s Worst Teachers, while Jo Nesbo’s newest book, Knife, comes roaring up behind in second place.

Elsewhere in the Top 20, it’s familiar reading. The Importance of Being Aisling by Emer McLysaght and Sarah Breen is still hanging around, in no. 11; The Tattooist of Auschwitz by Heather Morris is at no. 8; and back in the Top 20 after a fairly long absence (maybe it’s recommended beach reading?) is Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman, at no. 17.

The Top 10 categories show a similar story, with the newest book to appear being How to Forget by actress Kate Mulgrew, at no. 10 in Hardback Non-Fiction.

This week’s featured book is both old and new… Graham Norton’s novel A Keeper has had great runs in the charts on its release and now it’s back in a new edition due in early August, but on pre-orders has made it to no. 3 in Mass Market Fiction and no. 6 in the Top 20. Here’s the blurb:

From Graham Norton–the BAFTA-award-winning Irish television host and author of the “charming debut novel” (New York Journal of BooksHolding, a masterly and haunting tale of secrets and ill-fated love follows a young woman who returns to Ireland after her mother’s death and unravels the identity of her father.

When Elizabeth Keane returns to Ireland after her mother’s death, she’s focused only on saying goodbye to that dark and dismal part of her life. Her childhood home is packed solid with useless junk, her mother’s presence already fading. But within this mess, she discovers a small stash of letters–and ultimately, the truth.

Forty years earlier, a young woman stumbles from a remote stone house, the night quiet except for the constant wind that encircles her as she hurries deeper into the darkness away from the cliffs and the sea. She has no sense of where she is going, only that she must keep on.

A Keeper confirms Graham Norton’s status as a fresh and evocative literary voice, and illustrates his clear-eyed understanding of human nature and its darkest flaws.

And now on to the charts, with the Top 20 followed by the Top 10 in each category:
