Bookshops are gearing up for another tidal wave of new books, as ove three hundred new releases are scheduled for the coming couple of weeks! In the meantime, there are some great new arrivals in our Bestsellers Charts. Most notably, we’ve got former President Mary McAleese at no. 3 in the Top 20 only a couple of days after the release of her memoir, Here’s The Story. We can expect to see this stick around the charts for a good long while, particularly with Christmas coming up!

It’s also a case of another week, another excoriating Trump book. Rage by Bob Woodward takes us through the last few months, looking at the COVID-19 pandemic from the White House; again, likely to be popular for a while. We can’t predict how October’s election will go, but there’s sure to be curiosity about the President for a long time either way.

This week’s featured book couldn’t be further from the polemics of the Trump administration. The Glorious Guinness Girls is a fictionalised tale of the real-life Guinness family, toast of society, and their turbulent private lives. Narrowly missing out on a Top 20 spot, Emily Hourican’s novel is in the Top 10 Original Fiction and receiving rave reviews. Here’s the blurb:

‘Bright, pacy… Fans of Downton Abbey will adore this, and it would be surprising if the book weren’t made into a luscious mini-series’ The Sunday Times
‘A captivating and page-turning novel about a fascinating family. Fantastic’ Sinéad Moriarty

Step inside the extraordinary world of the Bright Young Things…

The Glorious Guinness Girls are the toast of London and Dublin society. Darlings of the press, Aileen, Maureen and Oonagh lead charmed existences that are the envy of many.

But Fliss knows better. Sent to live with them as a child, she grows up as part of the family and only she knows of the complex lives beneath the glamorous surface.

Then, at a party one summer’s evening, something happens which sends shockwaves through the entire household. In the aftermath, as the Guinness sisters move on, Fliss is forced to examine her place in their world and decide if where she finds herself is where she truly belongs.

‘A must for all Downton Abbey fans, The Glorious Guinness Girls is a gorgeous book, a captivating tale about a young girl caught up in the lifestyle of a family that continues to fascinate – the Guinness Family. A joy to read’ Swirl and Thread

Set amid the turmoil of the Irish Civil War and the brittle glamour of 1920s London, The Glorious Guinness Girls is inspired by one of the most fascinating family dynasties in the world – an unforgettable novel of reckless youth, family loyalty and destiny.

And now the charts, with the Top 20 followed by the Top 10 in each category…
