Irish Bestsellers 5th March 2022

Writing.ie | Magazine | Irish Bestseller Lists | News for Writers

We have the bestsellers in a slightly different format this week due to a technical hitch but hopefully you can still see them!

This week the charts are dominated by World Book Day titles which were released on 3rd March – World Book Day changes lives through a love of books and shared reading, with a mission is to promote reading for pleasure, offering every child and young person the opportunity to have a book of their own. Reading for pleasure is the single biggest indicator of a child’s future success – more than their family circumstances, their parents’ educational background or their income.

World Book Day® is a charity sponsored by National Book Tokens that wants to see more children, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds, with a life-long habit of reading for pleasure and the improved life chances this brings them. Designated by UNESCO as a worldwide celebration of books and reading, World Book Day is marked in over 100 countries around the globe.

This year they have a fantastic selection of brand new and exclusive £1/€1.50 books that children and young people can get for FREE with their £1/€1.50 token (distributed through schools). Over the last 25 years, World Book Day has become firmly established as Ireland’s biggest annual event promoting the enjoyment of books and reading for children and young people, and this year for the first time ever readers will have the opportunity to choose between two Irish published titles: the Irish language title, Cluasa Capaill ar an Rí is the winner of the 2021 Réics Carló Award (Book of the Year for Young Readers one of the An tOireachtas Publishing Awards) and will be available in a special World Book Day edition, and the English language title, Deadly Irish History! Fun with the Celts and the Vikings by John Farrelly, from The O’Brien Press.

Here are the top 20 bestsellers across all categories with data supplied by Nielsen BookScan taken from the Irish Consumer Market week ending 5th March 2022.
