Welcome back to another week in the charts, where we’re guessing people have had a pretty rubbish week as sales of Charlie Mackesy’s book The Boy, The Mole, The Fox and the Horse have shot right back up to the top of the Top 20 and the Hardback Non-Fiction Top 10, despite recent releases from John Grisham (Sooley, at no. 8 in Original Fiction), Oprah Winfrey (What Happened To You? Conversations on Trauma, Reslience and Healing), and bestselling author Anne Griffin (Listening Still, at no. 7 in the Top 20 and no. 2 in Original Fiction).

We also have a brand new entry into the Top 20 – lots of fun to see Peppa Pig: Peppa Goes to Ireland in the Top 20 and the Children’s Top 10… although we’re wondering how Peppa managed to get past covid quarantine and Brexit rules? Perhaps we’ll have to read on to find out…

This week’s featured book is a moving debut novel from Fiona Scarlett, which has earned itself top reviews from the likes of Marian Keyes and Kit de Waal. Boy’s Don’t Cry has entered the charts at no. 18 in the Top 20 and no. 4 in Original Fiction and both the book and the author are likely to be ones to watch for a long time. Here’s a little more information before we move on to the bestseller lists.

‘I can’t remember ever reading anything so moving . . . It’s so beautiful.’ MARIAN KEYES

They say boys don’t cry.
But Finn’s seen his Da do it when he thinks no one’s looking, so that’s not true.
And isn’t it OK to be sad, when bad things happen?

They say boys don’t cry, but you might . . .

‘Unforgettable.’ Donal Ryan
‘Authentic to the bone’ Kit de Waal
‘It will break your heart in a million different ways.’ Louise O’Neill
‘Powerful and poignant.’ Ruth Hogan
‘Hilarious and heartbreaking.’ Louise Nealon

What readers are saying:
‘Fiona Scarlett is certainly up there with the likes of Roddy Doyle . . . A beautifully written, authentic novel, that will make you both laugh and cry, I just want to recommend this book to everyone.’
‘This is a heartbreaking and very emotional novel that is exquisitely written. Fíona’s writing style helps to bring such raw emotion to the text that it was impossible to not shed a tear!’
‘I cried so much reading this book . . . A stunning read that I’ll be thinking about for a long time.’
‘There is a lot of humour to balance the heartache . . . All humanity is here, in all its shades, and that’s what stays with you long after you finish reading. A brilliant debut.’
