Murder One: Ireland’s International Crime Writing Festival Launches

A gripping cast of crime and thriller writers have been lined up for Murder One 2019, taking place in Smock Alley Theatre 1-3rd November. Supported by Dublin Libraries and Dublin City of Literature, Murder One boasts an intriguing blend of crime fact and fiction that will appeal to writers and readers alike.

Martina Cole, Steve Cavanagh, Lucy Foley, Hallie Rubenhold, Joseph O’Connor and Liz Nugent are among the host of Irish and international writers who will be in Dublin for the landmark festival.

True crime is to the fore this year with an event focusing on Jack the Ripper – Hallie Rubenhold will be setting the record straight for five of his victims in conversation with Joseph O’Connor, plus Dr Richard Shepherd, UK State Pathologist will be discussion with international bestseller Paul Carson in what promises to be a fascinating event – if you’re a crime writer it’s not one you can afford to miss!

World authority on Agatha Christie, Dr John Curran and author Andrew Wilson will delve into her mysterious disappearance and role as the godmother of detection with Anna Carey.

John Banville, Jane Casey and Roz Watkins will be Watching the Detectives with Trinity’s Brian Cliff.

And the destination is murder with Alex Barclay (I Confess) and Lucy Foley (The Hunting Party) as they talk lonely places with WC Ryan, author of House of Ghosts, a man who knows a thing or two about dark and dangerous places. Together with CJ Tudor (The Chalk Man/The Taking of Annie Thorne) and Stuart Turton (The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle), Jess Kidd, Henrietta McKervey and Paddy Hirsch, there are events for everyone.

With a host of readers to enthrall you at the free events in the Banquet Hall, plus The Gutter Bookshop pop up shop, coffee, cake and sandwiches and an opportunity to get your tarot cards read for Rape Crisis, Murder One promises a jam packed weekend!

For writers there is a range of must-do workshops with Liz Nugent, Patricia Gibney, Shane Dunphy and Catherine Ryan Howard, plus a Killer Pitch event with superstar Literary Agent Simon Trewin. Find out what a debut author has to do to make it over the line at Sam Blake’s Fresh Blood panel where she will be grilling three debut authors on inspiration, practice and their publishing journey.

Commencing on Friday evening in The Gutter Bookshop with its ten-year birthday celebration party, the Murder One weekend runs 1-3 November and tickets are already selling fast.

Preceded by #MidsummerMurderOne, events which hosted a stellar line-up of international bestsellers including Jeffery Deaver, James Ellory, Linwood Barclay, Adrian McKinty, Jane Harper and Karin Slaughter, the Murder One weekend is already tipped as one of the key festivals of the year.
