The winners will be unveiled on January 30th 2024, following the reading and voting process undertaken by Irish teenagers across the country.

The Great Reads Award has been running for eight years, with more and more participating schools – from all over Ireland – taking part each year.  One of the very few awards where students themselves vote and choose the winning titles, we aim to promote a feeling of ownership over literature for students, encouraging them to engage critically with novels, and display their enthusiasm for reading.

Our annual award ceremony also offers the chance for students to engage with  books, writing, illustration, and other cultural touchstones by being given the opportunity to communicate and interact with those attending the presentation event.

All of this is underpinned by the dedication of Irish School Librarians, who as part of the School Library Group of the Library Association of Ireland, conceived of, and run, this award.

Huge congratulations to the shortlisted authors and we wish them the best of luck on their Great Reads Award journey.
