Bord Gáis Energy is calling on all bookshops – and readers – to join them in the nationwide search for Ireland’s favourite bookshop.

The Bord Gáis Energy Bookshop of the Year award, now in its third year, is a unique category in the Bord Gáis Energy Irish Book Awards that recognizes and celebrates the vital role Irish bookshops play in their local community and the literary industry in Ireland.

Since its introduction in 2011, thousands of Irish booklovers have cast their vote for their favourite bookshop. This year, Bord Gáis Energy has introduced a number of changes which will further increase and enhance the profile of bookshops and the award category.

A dedicated website for voting, www.bgebookshopoftheyear.ie has been developed which will make it easier for the public to cast their vote.  In addition to this, Bord Gáis Energy will roll out a national ‘Love Your Bookshop’ promotional campaign to increase the profile of bookshops all over Ireland. They will also develop and distribute a bespoke digital marketing pack for all registered bookshops to help support booksellers promote themselves and their businesses using online social media channels.

All member bookshops of the Irish branch of the Booksellers Association (BA) are automatically listed on www.bgebookshopoftheyear.ie for voting but can opt out. Those not currently members of the BA can register their details at www.bgebookshopoftheyear.ie/register to be included in the nationwide vote, promotional campaign and to avail of free point of sale, promotional items and digital support packs.

Bookshops can register until Friday 6th September 2013.

Voting will open to the public on 16th September and will conclude on the 18th October with the shortlist announced on 31st October.

The winner will be announced at the Bord Gáis Energy Irish Book Awards ceremony and gala dinner on 26th November in the DT Hotel (formerly the Burlington Hotel), Dublin and will receive a prize fund of €5,000.

If you have a favourite bookshop, make sure they register and are in with a chance of winning this great prize!
