Mad About Books! Get Kids Reading with Sarah Webb
A brilliant new guide to children’s books has been published by Irish booksellers, Dubray Books. A paperback costing only and €2 edited by Sarah Webb Mad About Books is published on 19th August.
Dubray Books, Ireland’s Independent Bookseller, latest edition of Mad About Books: The Dubray Books Guide to Children’s Books contains over over 400 book reviews and exclusive author interviews, in an entertaining and invaluable guide for parents, teachers, librarians and anyone who would like to encourage children to read for enjoyment.
The first edition of Mad About Books, published in 2007, sold out two full print runs and has become a staple reference book for many teachers, crèche workers, librarians and parents. In the back to school preparations, this new edition will be a valuable addition to the booklists and is priced at only €2.
Mad About Books aims to highlight the very best books available for young readers. Each book in the guide has been carefully chosen, read and reviewed by the experienced team of Dubray Books children’s booksellers. They have worked closely with writer and children’s book consultant, Sarah Webb, who has brought her extensive knowledge and enthusiasm to this second edition. Sarah also acted as editor of the first edition of Mad About Books and is Children and Families Curator of the Mountains to Sea Book Festival and is on the Board of Children’s Books Ireland.
The guide also includes information on setting up children’s book clubs and advice on encouraging children to read. There is a chapter called Books Can Help that is devoted to finding books that deal with the many issues faced by children and teenagers such as bereavement, divorce and bullying.
Mad About Books will be launched on Thursday 22nd August at 6pm in The Lost Society, Powerscourt Townhouse, South William Street, Dublin 2, by the Laureate nÓg, Niamh Sharkey. Authors Anna Carey and Siobhan Parkinson will be in attendance, as well as many other children’s writers and illustrators.
A day of fun book events for families will also take place on Saturday 24th August in each individual branch of Dubray Books. These will include author readings, activities, treasure hunts and spot prizes. Please see www.dubraybooks.ie for a list of branches and their scheduled events.
