From Wednesday 18th March at 7pm, Dave Lordan will begin teaching a Beginners Adult Creative Writing class by livestream from www.facebook.com/davelordancreativity . It will of course be free, and open to all over 18s. It will take place weekly for the duration of the crisis.
For young people Dave can offer a 13 unit creative writing designed for teenagers, especially TY’s. It counts as 1/3rd of the bronze level Gaisce award and is certified by The Big Smoke Writing Factory, Ireland’s leading independent Creative Writing School. It covers contemporary creativity such as memes, video-poetry, & computer game narration, as well as the usual genres from a young person’s perspective. There are no live classes, all that is needed for the course is included in the 13 videos. Kids doing it have no direct contact. Here it is https://vimeo.com/showcase/5503062
Says Dave: We need art & creativity in times of crisis to help to get us through. I know I do. I encourage everyone to find a way to express themselves creatively during this crisis – it’s a natural antidepressant, it will help with the panic, it will stimulate. And there are so many ways to be creative – baking, make-up & henna, origami, drawing…whatever floats your boat, prescribe yourself triple doses of it for the next while.
My creative interest is literature. I love reading & writing. Above all I love poetry. And I know that in tough times poetry comes into its own as a sacred art that can comfort us & uplift us. With this in mind I will be livestreaming a morning poem from here at 8 am every morning. I have a large poetry library & will be introducing & reading poems from all sorts of times & places about all sorts of things – a good way to start the day with a little time out for deep thought & reflection & soulfulness. Feel free to join me, & if you aren’t around at 8am you will be able to watch the recording anytime.
