A new quarterly e-journal of short stories for iPhones, iPads and Androids, its first issue published on on 26 March 2012, THE SOUTH CIRCULAR is available to download from www.thesouthcircular.com for just €3.00
Aoife Walsh, publisher and editor of THE SOUTH CIRCULAR, former assistant editor with Four Courts Press, Dublin and currently information officer with Ireland Literature Exchange, Dublin, believes the time is right for a digital journal of short stories:
‘We believe passionately in the short story as a unique and inspiring genre. With Bloomsbury announcing 2012 as the year of the short story, major prizes like the Davy Byrnes Irish Writing Award still going strong and e-publishing entering a new phase in its development, we see a gap in the digital market for THE SOUTH CIRCULAR.
We want to see these short stories filed alongside other media like music and news in readers’ mobile devices. More romantically, we really hope to be able to enhance a person’s digital consumption with beautiful and thought-provoking short stories. To this end, THE SOUTH CIRCULAR has been working non-stop with graphic designer Hannah Doyle (www.doyleydesigns) to deliver a handsome digital journal for iPhones, iPads and Androids.’
For issue 2 of THE SOUTH CIRCULAR, authors may submit their work firstname.lastname@example.org between 26 March and 16 April 2012. For submission guidelines, please visit: www.thesouthcircular.com/submit.
