Cló Léann na Gaeilge (CLÓ) is a new Irish-language imprint that publishes academic books of the highest international standard. Run as a cross-institutional project in partnership with multiple universities, the publishers Comhar, and with support from Foras na Gaeilge, it hopes to set a new standard for academic publishing in Irish.
Ó Chleamairí Go Ceamaraí edited by Éadaoin Ní Mhuircheartaigh, Róisín Ní Ghairbhí and Pádraig Ó Liatháin is currently in press. This innovative collection of essays on Irish-language drama and performance art combines academic discussion with profiles of current practitioners and recent arts projects.
Cló’s first book, Léachtaí Uí Chadhain, edited by Liam Mac Amhlaigh and Caoimhín Mac Giolla Léith, was published last year and contains essays on Irish literature, culture and the Gaeltacht. These talks were given originally at the annual Máirtín Ó Cadhain lecture held in UCD and many of the essays deal with the life and works of Ó Cadhain himself.
Cló’s first monograph, An Óige agus an Athbheochan by Ríona Nic Congáil, will appear in early 2022. It is a study of youth culture in Ireland in the time of the Gaelic Revival. Drawing on multiple archival and literary sources, it explores how young people were recruited to the cause of reviving the Irish language.
