Submissions Call for 400 and Falling Press

Submissions Deadline: Open

400 and Falling Press will publish a bi-annual journal of literature and the arts. We ask for submissions of unpublished work in the following genres: poetry, fiction, visual art, creative non-fiction, literary criticism and art criticism. Please follow the submission guidelines carefully for each specific genre.

Our reading period is year round. If your work is accepted it may be featured on the website in the months leading up to publication. Not all work featured online will appear in print.

We cannot offer financial compensation at this time. All contributors will receive a copy of the issue in which they are published. We welcome simultaneous submissions, however please inform us if your work is published elsewhere. All literary submissions should be in a .pdf, .docx, or .doc file in 12 pt. Times New Roman type. Please include a cover letter in the body of the email with your contact information and a brief third person bio.

All work should be submitted to 400andfallingpress@gmail.com with “Submission Genre: Name: Title” as the subject (for example “Poetry: Frank Stanford: Singing Knives”).

Terms and Conditions

Poetry Submissions:
Submit up to 6 poems of any style and length.

Prose Submissions:
We do not accept pieces that are longer than 15,000 words. Submit no more than 2 pieces at a time.

Non-Fiction Submissions:
Submit up to 5 works of Creative Non-Fiction, Art Criticism, Music Criticism or Literary Criticism. Each piece should be no more than 15000 words.

Visual Art Submissions: 
Submit up to 20 pieces of visual art attached in an email in .jpg, .jpeg, or .pdf file. We accept various styles of visual art, including but not limited to, photography, painting, collage, and sculpture.

Please include a letter of permission from the owner of the original author’s rights.

400 and Falling will hold exclusive rights (in-print and online) to your piece for 120 days. After the allotted time, you will retain the rights, and the piece will be archived on the website. If your work is published in a collection, we would like an acknowledgement. By submitting your work, you are consenting to all of the listed terms and conditions.
