ABOUT JOFFE BOOKS
Founded in 2014 by Jasper Joffe, we at Joffe Books pride ourselves on our history of innovative digital publishing. Thanks to the unflagging passion and dedication brought by everyone in Team Joffe, we have built a reputation for crafting great books for readers, long-term relationships with authors, and fleet-footed marketing of the books we love. We were very proud to be shortlisted for Independent Publisher of the Year 2020 at the British Book Awards.
WHAT WE PUBLISH
We’re thrilled to publish books from such a strong roster of authors. We have achieved industry-wide renown for discovering new talent as well as bringing overlooked books back to life and delivering them to millions of readers – transforming the careers of their authors in the process. In 2019, we acquired the Robert Hale backlist from Crowood Press and extended what we consider to be a core list of crime, mysteries and thrillers to include sagas, historical fiction, and romance.
Our current list includes debut authors we’ve signed, such as Victoria Dowd and Taylor Adams, and well-established authors like Faith Martin and Joy Ellis.
If you have a brilliant book for us that you’d love to see digitally published, send it our way as we’re constantly on the look for fantastic fiction.

WHAT OUR EDITORS ARE LOOKING FOR:
Founder – Jasper Joffe:
In 2021 we’re looking for brilliantly gripping mysteries, thrillers and psychological fiction. From the first page I want to be totally hooked. I’d like believable characters and settings with writing that packs a real punch. Company-wide we’re also focussed on finding the best voices from communities that haven’t been published as much as they should be. To put it simply, please send me a book that I’ll be up all night reading!
Commissioning Editor – Emma Grundy Haigh:
My big mission this year is to sign more writers from underrepresented communities, Black and minority ethnic voices especially, writing across the crime/thriller/mystery spectrum. Whether you’re writing authentic police procedurals, gritty blockbusters with a strong female lead, riveting psychological thrillers that keep me on the edge of my seat or cosy mysteries with a Miss Marple-ish protagonist, I want to see it.
I am always on the hunt for exciting debut authors. I love working with new writers, helping them hone their craft as well as navigate the publishing process, which can be overwhelming for a first-time author. We’ve had great success with several debut authors this year, which has been an unending pleasure to see how whole-heartedly they have been received by their readership. But my love for debuts will never undermine my appreciation for a stalwart writer with a strong backlist. We at Joffe Books have a solid reputation for relaunching authors, such as Faith Martin, Roger Silverwood and Joy Ellis, back into the limelight, and that is a huge source of satisfaction as well.
TOP TEN TIPS FOR SUBMISSIONS!
I know how much writers put into their books. So, I wanted to give some tips on submitting your books to us and other publishers. We receive many brilliant submissions every day and we look at every single one of them. Forgive me if some of it sounds very obvious, but these are based on experience, and you never know what people might overlook!
- Put something in the email. A blank email with an attachment often just gets deleted.
- Spell the name of the company, person you’re submitting to correctly.
- Read the submissions page, it will help! Do what it says more or less.
- Press send once.
- PDFs: L. Our readers look at promising submissions on their Kindles and a Word doc works much better.
- Research the publisher. What are their best-selling books, what genres etc. Mention your research if it’s relevant (e.g. if your book is like one of theirs)
- Say what genre it is, what other books it resembles, who will read it, and tell the story in one paragraph.
- Check your spelling/write in punchy sentences.
- Tell us briefly about what makes you you.
- Keep it clear, short, simple.
- Surprise bonus tip. Thank you very much for writing your book. It’s a wonderful thing to write a novel and you should be proud of yourself.
