The Mslexia Magazine Women’s Fiction Competition is now open, with a starry line up of judges that include Hilary Mantel, A L Kennedy and Marianne Tatepo. There are three categories (Novel, Short Story, Flash Fiction) and winners and finalists go on to great things (check out these success stories for their latest achievements).

As well as serious money, prizes include manuscript feedback and agent introductions – and publication in Mslexia and the inaugural ebook anthology Best Women’s Short Fiction 2021.

The closing date for all categories is 20 September 2021.

Women’s Fiction Competition 2021 – Novel for Adults

1st prize £5,000. Finalists receive manuscript feedback from The Literary Consultancy and personal introductions to literary agents arranged in partnership with New Writing North. For novels of at least 50,000 words in any genre. Submit first 5,000 words only in the first instance. Longlisted entrants will be asked to submit their finished manuscripts later in the judging process. Entry fee: £25.

Women’s Fiction Competition 2021 – Short Story

1st prize £3,000, plus mentoring by a specialist literary agent. Three additional finalists will each receive £100 and all four winning entries are published in Mslexia. Winning entries plus eight more shortlisted entries will be published in Mslexia’s inaugural ebook anthology Best Women’s Short Fiction 2021. Entry fee: £12.

Women’s Fiction Competition 2021 – Flash Fiction

1st prize £500. Three additional finalists each receive £50 and all four winning entries are published in Mslexia. Winning entries plus eight more shortlisted entries will be published in Mslexia’s inaugural ebook anthology Best Women’s Short Fiction 2021. Entry fee: £6.
