Submissions Call: The Lilliput Press

Writing.ie | Resources | Getting Published | Submission Opportunities

Submissions deadline: 31st July 2022

The Lilliput Press wants to find the best writers at work today and that’s why we accept submissions from anyone. To make things manageable we have certain guidelines and currently only accept work during submissions windows, but our independence as a company thrives on our accessibility. However, despite our open submissions policy we know that not everyone has a map with our name on it.
We know there are amazing writers out there who may not be putting themselves forward. Maybe they aren’t confident that their work will be properly considered, maybe they have no idea about publishing in Ireland or the processes they need to engage with. We believe it’s part of our job to try to discover these people; we want to read their work.

Please share this message with people you know that may not know about us. We want to attract the best writing, from wherever it’s being created.

About the Lilliput Press
The Lilliput Press is one of Ireland’s smallest and most prestigious publishing houses and won Small Press of the Year in Ireland in 2020. It was founded in 1984 by Publisher Antony Farrell who has published over 600 titles, and our bookshop and office are based in Stoneybatter in the heart of Dublin. Lilliput publishes a wide variety of Irish interest books and are proud to represent authors such as James Joyce, John Moriarty, J.P. Donleavy and many others. We specialize in biography, historical non-fiction and memoir, but are also one of the leading fiction publishers in Ireland and are known for discovering exciting new talents such as Donal Ryan, Rob Doyle, Kevin Power, Elske Rahill Alice Lyons and Adrian Duncan. We have recently published novels by Martina Devlin and Emer Martin to great acclaim.

Our submission window is now open from 1 to 31 July 2022. After this date, we will not accept submissions until the next submission window in 2022. Please read the guidelines below before sending us your work.

Postal submissions cannot be accepted. Submissions should be sent by email rather than by post. If you have any difficulties using email, please phone our office on (01) 671 1647 between 10:00-14:00, Monday to Friday.

• The books published by The Lilliput Press are all broadly focused on Irish themes and have a connection with Ireland. Please bear this in mind when considering us for submission.
• The Lilliput Press publishes books entirely on their merit, regardless of the author’s class, colour, creed, or gender. We continue as we began more than three decades ago, searching out fresh voices that will resonate beyond our shores. As custodians of the written word, we cherish our independence of judgment, originality of thought, and the singularity of Irish culture in a polyglot universe.
• We publish a wide range of titles spanning history, memoir, biography, nature writing, essay collections and literary fiction. We are particularly interested in these areas.
• The Lilliput Press does not publish crime fiction, romance, science fiction, fantasy, children’s books or other genre fiction.
• Please email editorial@lilliputpress.ie with your submission, following these guidelines:

Include the word ‘Submission’ in your subject line with the title of your work.
Attach a single-page cover letter introducing yourself, including your contact details. Please explain why you are submitting to the Lilliput Press. For more information about the Press, please see the ‘About Us’ page.
Attach a one-page synopsis of your work.
Attach three sample chapters as a Word document or a PDF (these don’t need to be consecutive – please send us your best work!).

The Lilliput Press receives hundreds of submissions every year. We acknowledge each piece of work and try to give time and attention to all of them, but please allow up to 6 months for a response.
If our editorial committee is interested in your synopsis, they will ask for a full copy of your manuscript.
We look forward to reading your work. Thank you!
