As I’ve said before, writing is a highly competitive industry, and good writing alone won’t keep you in the game. You’ve got to learn to think like a professional, and figure out your balance between art and business. So here’s some advice to get you started.

1: 4 Critical Mindset Shifts – First up, we have Joanna Penn with the ways she’s learned to change her thinking over the last 10 years of her career.

2: How to Think Like a Great Writer – This guest post by screenwriter and children’s book author Michael Mahin looks at the kind of attitude a successful writer needs.

3: 7 Things You Must Give Up – Some tough truths in here, as we consider the brutal honesty of what a writing career demands of you.

4: 17 Ways to Think Like a Writer Every Day – We’ll wrap things up with a nice list of simple ways you can teach yourself to think like a writer.

That’s all for this week. Good luck!

Paul Anthony Shortt believes in magic and monsters; in ghosts and fairies, the creatures that lurk under the bed and inside the closet. The things that live in the dark, and the heroes who stand against them. Above all, he believes that stories have the power to change the world, and the most important stories are the ones which show that monsters can be beaten.
