2018 Short Story Contest

2018 Short Story Contest submissions will be judged by a panel published authors, with shortlist judged by Declan Meade, publisher, editor, and co-founder of The Stinging  Fly literary magazine, which showcases new and emerging Irish and  international writers.

The winner will receive a $1,000 cash prize.

Terms and Conditions

  • fiction only
  • 5000 word count maximum
  • all submissions must be in English
  • standard formatting: 12 point font, double-spaced.
  • author’s name cannot appear on ms. ms with author name included will be disqualified.
  • international submissions allowed
  • previously unpublished work only
  • $15 reading fee per story

The 2018 Shirley McClure Poetry Contest

The 2018 Shirley McClure Poetry Contest judges will include Jessica Traynor, Caroline Bracken, Sally Ashton and the final shortlist will be judged by Paul Muldoon. The winner will receive a $600 cash prize.

Terms and Conditions

  • applicants must be over 18 years of age
  • all submissions must be in English
  • submissions must be no more than 50 lines
  • author’s name cannot appear on manuscript (ms with author name included will be disqualified.)
  • international submissions allowed
  • previously unpublished work only
  • $10 reading fee per poem

The 2018 Youth Writing Contest

The 2018 Youth Writing Contest will be judged panel of three published writers and poets, names tba.

Entries can be short story or poetry. The winner will receive a $400 Amazon Gift Card.

Terms and Conditions

  • applicants must be under 18 (by 12/31/2018)
  • all submissions must be in English
  • short story submissions no more that 2500 word count
  • poetry submissions must be no more than 50 lines
  • author’s name cannot appear on manuscripts (ms with author name included will be disqualified.)
  • international submissions allowed
  • previously unpublished work only
  • $8 reading fee per poem

Winners will be notified directly in advance of the Irish Arts & Writers Festival, October 12th, 2018, and names announced at the opening reception. The winning work will be published on irishartsfestival.com after that date. Prize expires after 9 months, if unclaimed.

Non-winning or non-shortlisted applicants will not receive individual notifications.
