The Leopold Bloom Press was launched by The Lord Mayor of Dublin in February 2022, exactly one hundred years to the day that Ulysses was first published in Paris. It is housed at 2 Grafton Street, the former Yeates and Sons Opticians as referred to in Ulysses. Yeates and Sons Opticians is not only featured in Ulysses. It is also where James Joyce’s iconic glasses came from.

This being the centenary of Ulysses, and with a nod to the theme of sight, The Leopold Bloom Press’s first title Writing Man by Frances Flannery opens with a portrayal of the protagonist Tobias Pilferhoff wearing unnecessary glasses in a bid to present himself as the talented writer which he is not.

What is the name of the former Optician’s where James Joyce’s glasses came from, a building that now houses The Leopold Bloom Press?
