Competition deadline: 1st September 2021

MONO. was launched in 2021 as a literary journal dedicated to the unstuffy, to dark humour and writing that sits on the blurred edges of ordinary life between melancholy and humour. It’s the things we shouldn’t laugh at, the cringeworthy moments that we love to forget, the irony of life but always with a dark or comic twist.

All winning entries will also be published in the April 2022 edition of MONO.

It is with great excitement that we invite you to enter our first poetry competition on the theme of ‘SANITY’. The competition will be judged by acclaimed poet, Padraig Rooney. You can interpret the theme in any way you wish.

You can submit up to three poems for a total cost of £6.00. Entries can be made by clicking on the appropriate payment button at the very bottom of this page. The button will take you through a secure payment process where there is also an option to use Paypal.

Two Simple Steps to Enter:

  1. Please pay the relevant fee below. Your choice will be added to the cart where you can securely checkout.
  2. Send your poems as a Word doc, along with full name and payment reference to editor.monosubmissions@gmail.com. Subscribers to the magazine pay a reduced entry fee and in all further competitions. (Please ensure your name does not appear in the body of the attachment as all entries will be judged anonymously.). Write POETRY COMPETITION in the subject bar of the email.

10% of monies received from this competition will be given to Poetic Unity, a Brixton (UK)-based charity using poetry to give a voice to the voiceless. We are excited to support this fantastic charity, using literature and creative writing to change lives and communities. Find out more here.

Finally, we don’t mind how you present or format your poetry. Spoken word welcome. Be your brilliant, creative selves!
