Open to members and non-members of the HNS until 17 November 2025, the competition is for the opening (maximum 3,000 words) and 1-page synopsis of what is intended to be a full-length historical novel that has not been previously published in any form. The competition is open to both previously published and unpublished authors.
The winner will be announced at the HNS 2026 conference in Maynooth in August 2026 and will receive £1,000 and the competition trophy. Ten Category Winners will each receive £500 and a free HNS 2026 conference ticket (onsite or online).
You do not have to attend the HNS2026 conference to enter the competition.
