Everyone has a story to tell!
As well as giving you tips from Irish authors to help you develop your writing, this site is about your stories. Here we give you an opportunity to share your experiences and thoughts….for you to tell us your story.
A couple of years ago I was honoured to be asked to judge the Irish Country Womans’ Association short story competition. In fact I judged for two years and I was blown away by the stories that were submitted. Many drew on personal experience and showed me a side of Ireland that I had little knowledge of (being a third generation blow-back-in). I felt that the stories were an essential record of life in Ireland and needed to be preserved. I’m delighted now that writing.ie can faciliate the recording of personal stories, and we are working with the National Folklore Collection based in UCD to ensure that your experiences are preserved for this and future generations.
Ireland has undergone a dramatic period of social change in the last 80 years, indeed in the last 10 – it has affected different people in different ways, and here we hope you will share your experiences through the written word.
But our Tell Your Own Story section isn’t just for Irish people living in Ireland, it is open to Irish people living anywhere in the world, in fact anyone with an Irish connection no mater how far back it goes – share your family stories of emigration past and present, of settling in a new culture, the highs and lows, tell us about your life.
