My current project is a work-in-progress debut YA novel “Dogs Reign Supreme”. While procrastinating, it’s always fun to think about what the blurb will read and whether or not it entices the reader. Hence, I thought I’d share what I’ve played around with so far. Advice and suggestions, as always, are welcome and much appreciated.
Imagine a world ruled by dogs. I know what you’re thinking: all the cuddles and tail-wagging one could want right? Companionship and unconditional love for all? Fool. Sorry to burst your bubble but the reality? These loveable ‘fur-babies’ you’re imagining are monsters. All you are to them is a target, a job. And yes. Even the puppies are out to get you.
In a world where Dogs are law enforcement, there are still communities dotted around Ireland where crime is king, hell-bent on refusing the Mutts’ authority. Róg and her brother grew up and live in such a place in a seaside town called Morris. While Róg is of the same opinion as her community, her brother Teagh is an honest, hardworking dock worker. But he’s the one who gets arrested. More than a year later, Róg shares the same fate and we follow her story as she’s taken to the dreaded Kennels, leashed to the highest-ranking Dog in the Canine Corps, a K9.
