The High Street shops wished me well, but said my humorous collection of childhood memories would not sell and would not be stocking it. So today, I’d like a dog with nine tails and all nine of ’em wagging because my effort has reached the dizzying heights of BESTSELLER in the Memoir/Anthology section of Amazon.ie
I would have been lost without the support of independent bookshops, I owe them a huge debt of gratitude.
What makes this latest success so satisfying is because I only started writing after retiring.
What is my book about? Well, it’s the readers passport to an Irish boyhood in a less frantic, more adventurous age, reliving a time of skinned knees and home-made go-karts, clean dirt, Saturday night baths, and the kind of sweets that’d nearly cost you your teeth. Back when it always seemed to snow at Christmas, the summers were long and golden, and the friendships were forever. A time of fun and adventure and sometimes mischief and if we couldn’t find it, we invented it.
