The Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing Platform

For anyone who has ever considered self-publishing a book, there is an exciting free event planned for 2.00-5.00pm on 9th October at Riddel Hall, Stranmillis Road, Belfast. You will be able to see and hear Amazon experts live and in person.

The Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing platform allows authors to upload books, in ebook, paperback and audio formats free of charge; publish them to territories worldwide; and receive royalties on sales of up to 70%, depending on price point and territory.

Author and self-publishing expert and organiser of the event, Margaret Skea, who is the Northern Irish Ambassador for the Alliance of Independent Authors and a former member of the Management Committee of the Society of Authors, said,

‘This FREE seminar, jointly arranged by the Alliance of Independent Authors and Amazon, brings together key personnel from Kindle Direct Publishing and is an exciting and rare opportunity to meet, hear from, and directly question the people behind the Amazon façade; along with authors who have found success using the platform.’

For anyone writing a book this event will explain key self-publishing concepts; set out the processes involved in utilising the Kindle Direct platform; and present strategies to connect with readers and maximise the sale of all book formats, both at home and abroad.

The event will open with a Powerpoint presentation from Darren Hardy, Senior Manager EU Author Community and Jen Barrett, UK Kindle Direct Publishing Lead.

Amazon Bestselling Authors

This will be followed by a panel of best-selling and award-winning authors providing their own perspectives and experience of publishing through the Kindle platform. The authors are:

Dublin-based Gerry Kilby: His first novel, Chain Reaction, is very much an old-school techno-thriller; while his later book series—Moon Base Delta, Colony Mars, and The Belt— have topped the Amazon charts for Hard Science Fiction and Space Exploration, who said,

‘It is no exaggeration to say that self-publishing via Amazon’s KDP platform has transformed my writing career and provided me with a lifestyle that most traditionally published authors can only dream of.’

Kelly Creighton: Isan award‑winning author based in Newtownards. Her thirteen books include the DI Harriet Sloane crime series; a thriller State of Fear, short story collections and poetry. She commented,

‘As an author who began as a traditionally published author, I am delighted with what KDP has done for my career. It has given me total control over my books.’

Margaret Skea: a Northern Irish author, now living in Scotland, and award-winning author of 16th century historical novels, contemporary biography and short stories, said,

‘Moving from traditional publishing to KDP has allowed me to find readers and achieve sales for the books I want to write, without any restrictions of genre or niche.’

This event will be of benefit to those already using the Kindle platform; for those new to the process; and for those traditionally published, who have a book that, for whatever reason, does not fit their publisher’s list, or have a backlist they wish to re-publish.

Both sessions will include an opportunity for audience Q+A.
