Dublin author Marita Conlon-McKenna is back with her new adults’ book, ‘A Taste for Love’ – a feel-good exploration of food, relationships, and the importance of a fulfilling (and fun-filled) job. While she is better known for her children’s classics such as ‘Under the Hawthorn Tree’, Conlon-McKenna is now making a name for herself in the adult market.
When Alice decided to open a cookery school at her home in Monkstown as a way of bringing in some money, a disparate group of characters soon sign up for her first season of lessons. From widower Rob and housewives Rachel and Leah to young couple Paul and Gemma and unemployed Lucy, Alice has her hands full trying to teach a group with such a range of ability to turn out perfectly-cooked feasts every Tuesday night. Along the way, many of the characters undergo epiphanies as the transformative power of Alice’s character and cooking take effect.
As a weekend away from heavier literary fare, this is a lovely read – to be enjoyed while treating yourself to some of the tasty food mentioned within!
