Hidden Among Us is a dark, twisted, brilliant tale of a damaged family, broken hearts and promises, revenge, magic, and how the past will always catch up with you, just when you least expect it. This is fantasy romance of a most unusual sort.
It is the story of fourteen year old Lissy Harker who returns to Hopesay Reach, the isolated town where her mother grew up and where she was born. Sheltered by a overprotective mother, Lissy has no idea of the bargain for her life and the dark world of the Hidden to which she is bound. Her life is turned upside-down when she meets Larkspur, one of the Hidden, a mysterious group of elven people whose king plans to destroy mankind.
Caught in a century’s old fight, Lissy, her brother Rafe and their friend Joe struggle to close the gate to the Hidden, save her dying sister before its too late and escape a deadly promise which can never be broken.
This is without doubt a fabulous fantasy thriller with a twist at the end that I definitely didn’t see coming.
All the characters were well written, had an interesting background stories and made me want more. Written from Lissy, Miriam, Joe, Rafe and even Larkspur’s point of view, it’s really cool to read the different emotions and reactions of the different characters.
All in all, it’s a definite must read for the Summer, especially for fans of faeries and folklore! 10/10
