Odeous Underworld: The Cursed Vial is a dark fantasy survival thriller about a post-apocalyptic world that has been overrun by mutants. The mutants come out at night to attack the healthy human population while the healthy human population try to hide and survive the nightly attacks. The main protagonist in the book is called “Jason Matthews”. Jason goes on the run one night after a mutant raids his home in order the find the chosen one before it’s too late to locate the cursed vial and destroy it to save humanity, before the God of the Underworld called Odeous Underworld finds the cursed vial and takes over the world as their one true master.
The book is written in an atmospherically dense, visually rich imagery format that allows the reader to be completely immersed in the book. It is designed as a fast paced high stakes survival book that doesn’t let up from start to finish, inviting the reader on a rollercoaster of an adventure to destroy the cursed vial and save humanity before the titular deity Odeous Underworld takes over.
The Inspiration for Odeous Underworld: The Cursed Vial
The inspiration for the book came from a dinner that I went to with my acting friends when I completed an acting course. We were all out having a nice meal in Cork City and we were saying that we should make a film together. One of my friends said that he would love to produce a movie about Zombie’s. Later that night at home I started thinking about the idea and felt that instead of Zombie’s, that mutants instead might be a fresh new idea for a film. As I started writing week after week, I was sharing it with the same friend who encouraged me to keep writing. When I finished the manuscript, my Mother recommended me to send the manuscript into publishers.
A few days after I submitted the manuscript to a few publishers, a UK based book creator got back to me saying that they were interested in my book and would like to work with me to create it. At the time I was ecstatic and I couldn’t wait to tell my Mother and friends from the acting about the exciting news. I worked side by side with the UK based book maker to produce the book.
I came up with the idea for the cover, writing font and the blurb at the back. I also came up with the description of the book which creates a sense of intrigue; leaving the reader to find out more and portray the dark fantasy element of the book. I use sentences like “Do you dare step into the realm of Odeous Underworld” and “Step inside if you dare” to invite the reader into an exciting adventure of wonder and discovery.
A Unique Blend of Genres
This book is a unique blend of different book genres. It has been dubbed as a “genre fusion” by mixing post-apocalyptic horror with mythology and survival thriller; something that the reader will find intriguing and engaging and will appeal to readers of these 3 book genres. I was fortunate to have had a few people review it that described it as “riveting” and “an epic read”. One reviewer described it as “a book that makes you want to flick from page to page to page”.
Growing up in Cork City I was always a dreamer and I was particular good in school at languages and English. I excelled at English in school and was one of the few students in my year to get an A in my leaving certificate in Higher level English and in the essay. In school as a kid; I always loved dreaming up fantastical words and often envisioned that one day I would be telling a story in a book in real life.
I’m delighted that now as an adult my dream has finally come true and I can finally share my creative energy and fresh ideas with the world through Odeous Underworld. This is an amalgamation of several months of creative thought and energy that I can stand over and truly say that this is an epic read that will keep people engaged and eager to go from page to page to page all the way to the very end of the book.
Writing the Sequel
The book has gained attention on many different retailer sites around the world. It is available on Amazon, Waterstones, Barnes and Noble, Walmart, Foyles, Booktopia and many others. I owe my creative energy to my wonderful family, friends and supportive people around me that have encouraged me to pursue my dream of becoming an author. I’ve started writing the sequel to Odeous Underworld: The Cursed Vial . I also have 125 page film script fully written up that I’m hoping will get made into a film or series in the near future. The plan Is to make at least three Odeous Underworld books, possible prequels also to the book and make it into the next big dark fantasy books, series/films that readers and fantasy story lovers from all over the world will enjoy.
